Notes:
The volumes entitled "Original Dutch Documents" were compiled at a later date from several original volumes with different page sizes and pagination. The records were rebound possibly twice or more in their history, probably in the 1850s when they were translated, and again in the 1930s by the WPA. It is unknown when the original volumes were disturbed. English translations have been published in the "Records of New Amsterdam," edited by Berthold Fernow (1897). In July 1673, the Dutch recaptured New York and renamed it New Orange. It was returned to the English with the Treaty of Westminster in November 1674.
